Cyber Summit 2024: It was all just a meme – thirty years of cyber culture
The emergence of the web ~30 years ago led to the growth of a new cyber (internet) culture. This instant and global exchange of information drove subcultures that have spawned social movements, influenced elections, produced new economies, made people celebrities, as well as unfortunately, harbored nefarious activities.

With Cybera, SRNET and MRNet’s beginnings paralleling the rise of cyber culture in the early to mid-90s, the Cyber Summit will look back at the last three decades, and how cyber culture has influenced Western Canada’s network. We will explore the ways people share and interact online, and how that has impacted research, cybersecurity, education, and the workforce. This event will also look to the next 30 years, with thought provoking predictions, suggestions for IT leaders to consider, and of course, lots of memes.

The Cyber Summit is a gathering of Western Canada's public, education and start-up technology leaders. The conference features workshops and discussions around the latest digital issues and solutions, and how they impact Canadians.

The Cyber Summit is organized by the three Prairie organizations that run the Research and Education Networks in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba:
CyberaSRNET and MRnet. Each organization works with stakeholder groups in the public, education, and start-up space, who look to them for unbiased technical advice and support.
